Elizabeth May Smothers

Elizabeth (Liz) May Tilman Smothers, beloved mother, sister and friend peacefully passed from this life at home surrounded by her family on May 3, 2022, in Santa Ysabel, CA.  She was born in Humboldt, KS on July 20, 1937 to Enos and Charles Tilman Sr.  Liz graduated from Humboldt High School where she met her husband Keith Smothers, and they were married 53 years before Keith passed away in 2010.

In 1986, at the age of 50, Liz pursued her dream of owning her own business as a baker and established the Julian Pie Company in Julian CA.  In 1992, to meet the increased wholesale demand for her pies, Liz opened a second location in Santa Ysabel, CA.  Today her pies are shipped all over the United States.

Liz is survived by 5 children:  Joni Smothers of Mt. Shasta, CA, David of Julian, CA, Daniel of Ramona, CA, Amy Chacksfield (Sean) of Pahrump, NV and Timothy (Brandi) of Santa Ysabel, CA.  Also surviving Liz is her brother Charles Tilman of Humboldt, KS, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Liz possessed a deep entrepreneurial spirit.  She was passionate, optimistic, dedicated and not afraid of risk.  Liz will be missed beyond measure by many.
