Karen Hoppe, 74, of Ramona, California, passed away on June 1, 2026.
Born on April 11, 1952, in Duluth, Minnesota, to Kenneth and Marie Tonkin, Karen later found her true home in Ramona, where she built a life filled with friendship, love, and purpose. She shared a deep bond and an extraordinary life together with her husband of 40 years, Michael Hoppe.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Timothy Tonkin. She is survived by her loving husband, Michael; brother, Thomas; and many nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.
Karen treasured the friendships she made throughout her life. She had a remarkable gift for making people feel welcomed, valued, and appreciated. Her kindness, generosity, and open heart touched countless lives, and she formed deep and lasting connections wherever she went. She loved her adopted hometown of Ramona and embraced the community that became her family, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Karen was also known for doting on the four-legged residents of Ramona. Many wagging tails recognized her as the lady with sweet words and a pocketful of treats. Her love of animals reflected the warmth and compassion she extended to everyone she met.
Karen was a proud friend of Bill W. for 43 years, offering support, encouragement, and hope to many along the way. Her quiet strength and willingness to help others leave behind a legacy that will continue to inspire.
Though Karen left us far too soon, the love, kindness, and joy she brought into the world will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
A committal service will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026, at 9:30AM at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego, California. A Celebration of Life will follow from 1:00-4:00PM at San Vicente Resort in Ramona, California.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Karen's memory to 2 The Rescue Animal Sanctuary (1830 Olive St., Ramona, CA 92065; 2therescueanimalsanctuary.org) or to a
favorite animal shelter of your choice.
