Thomas Dale Crellin Jr.

Thomas Dale Crellin, Jr., 92, of San Diego, California, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026.
Born on February 23, 1934, Thomas lived a life defined by service, dedication, and deep love for his family. He proudly served as a Navy Officer from 1956 to 1962, reflecting his strong sense of duty and commitment to others. Following his military service, he pursued a career in education, earning his Master’s Degree in Education and serving as both a teacher and grammar school principal, where he positively impacted the lives of countless students, families, and fellow educators throughout his career.
Thomas also had a passion for aviation and was both a pilot and flight instructor, finding joy and freedom in the skies. In addition, he was a devoted vintage car enthusiast who appreciated craftsmanship, history, and the simple pleasure of sharing that passion with others. He was also a proud member of the Over The Hill Gang car club, where he enjoyed the camaraderie and shared appreciation for classic automobiles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Dale Crellin Sr. and Hazelle E. Crellin; his beloved wife, Mary A. Crellin; and his dearly loved oldest son, Thomas D. Crellin III.
Thomas is survived by his sons, Stuart W. Crellin and his wife, Monica G. Crellin, and Mark A. Crellin and his wife, Esther Crellin; his brother, John David Crellin; his sister, Pamela Christine Grider; his grandchildren, Dustin Crellin, Kyle Crellin, Kristen Lopez, Michael McCarter- Crellin, and Victoria Crellin; his nieces, Dawn Baumgardner, Carolyn Tinsley, and Joni Sands; his nephew, John Altheide; as well as many beloved great-grandchildren and extended family members.

Thomas will be remembered for his wisdom, sense of service, and enduring devotion to family. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched both personally and professionally, and through the family who loved him deeply.
Thomas will be interred with military honors at Miramar National Cemetery on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
