Marilyn Connolly

January 14, 1930 ~ September 3, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Marilyn A. Connolly
January 14, 1930 – September 3, 2017

Marilyn was born in Cleveland Ohio, the only child of Edwin
C. Reinhart and Helen (Barrett) Reinhart. She grew up in Cleveland and
graduated from John Marshall High School in 1948. She left home to
attend Ohio University. She graduated in 4 years with a teaching
credential. At OU she pledged Phi Mu Sorority and maintained a lifelong
association.  She taught at Pearl Rd Elementary in Parma Ohio. She left
to take a US Government job in Germany.  In Bamberg she met the love of
her life, Major B.F. Connolly, the executive officer of an armored
casern. They were married Dec. 1956. Their only child, Stephen, was born
the following Nov.

The family returned to the States via ship in 1958. Marilyn resumed
teaching while Bernie finished his Army career. The family settled in
San Diego in 1962 and bought a home in Del Cerro in 1963.  Marilyn
immediately got a job teaching at Horace Mann Jr High School. She
continued there for 25 years. While teaching she obtained her Master’s
of Ed. at SDSU. She formed lifelong friendships at Mann and was active
in the social committee. The highlight of her carrier was having a
double class of Indochinese Refugees. With the help of classroom aids
she was able to help assimilate the Khmers into American culture. Upon
retirement she and Bernie traveled. She was an avid bridge player, loved
to dance, entertain and cook for her family, especially large holiday
dinners. She stayed busy with water aerobics, Red Hats, the Mission San
Diego Church, and its Missionaires group, Ladies Poker and Officers
Wives Bridge at Miramar. Marilyn was delighted and proud of her whole
family.

She is survived by step-daughter Barbara (Gary) Dawson of Boise,
son Stephen of Ramona, grandsons Brian (Alyson) of Ramona and Matthew of
New Orleans.
