Adrien Tarpinian Bedore

Adrien was born and raised in Indian Orchard, a suburb of Springfield Massachusetts on
February 24th 1933. She was brought up by her mother, Sophie Lucy Tarpinian who had
emigrated to the USA from Turkey. Along with Adrien’s brother, Murad and Sisters Margaret
and Alice, she loved her childhood in Massachusetts. She took courses in travel, computers,
typing, shorthand, sales and Japanese. At 16 she got her 1st job at the local 5 & Dime,
additionally she held clerk jobs with Dunn & Bradstreet and Buxton Inc. At 21 she applied to
be a dance instructor at the Fred Astaire dance studio where she met her forever dance
instructor, Arthur Bedore. They dated for 3 years. During that time they opened their own
dance studio. He was in the Army Air Corp and when he was informed he would be stationed
in Italy for the next four years, he proposed and they were married. They packed up his four
children from a previous marriage, Carol, Art, Paul and Allen and were off! They spent the next
four years living in Italy and exploring all over Europe. They came back to the states and were
sent to Duluth MN for 2 years, then to Colorado where son Bryan was born, then to Japan for 2
years. During their time in Japan they experienced a big earthquake. Adrien got scared and
wanted to leave after that. She was pregnant with Barry at the time. Art checked into other
places the military would allow him to move with the same rank and Hawaii was an option.
They packed up and moved to Hawaii where son Barry was born. After their time in Hawaii
they moved to their final military destination, San Francisco where Art retired from the military
in 1974.
Adrien wanted to go to a place where Art could have a thriving second career. Their friends
convinced them to consider San Diego CA. They checked it out and decided that was where
they would settle. In San Diego, the family lived in San Carlos on Hudson Drive for a few years
and then in 1977 decided to upgrade to a home in the Fletcher Hills area of El Cajon. They
raised their two sons Bryan and Barry there.
Adrien was very social and Art called her his “Social Director”. She would arrange get
togethers with her girl friends for lunches, bridge parties at the home and outings to Balboa
Park. She especially loved the International Cottages where she and Art would go to
experience the festivities that provided a taste of the different countries and if they were really
lucky they would have an opportunity to dance. They were foodies and really loved to go to the
Taste Of San Diego Events each year. She loved the Brigantine in La Mesa for family gatherings
such as Mother’s and Father’s day. She liked to lunch there with her friends as well. They
treated her with the familiarity of Norm walking into Cheers and she loved the attention!
Both Art and Adrien were avid golfers and played many of the courses here in San Diego.
Bryan followed in their footsteps sharing their love of the game. They also enjoyed watching
Barry play music with several of the bands he was in over the years. They would show up and
immediately take the dance floor by storm. Their enthusiasm was infectious and soon everyone
would be dancing! Bryan and Barry’s friends loved Adrien for her welcoming spirit, easy to talk
to attitude, and of course they loved that she always fed the hungry young men.
Adrien loved her grandchildren, Wes, Lauren, Justin, Jake and Juliet. Easter, Christmas and
birthdays were always fun family gatherings that she enjoyed. Whenever she could, she would
attend their events and supported them in their interests. Racing, Dance, Martial Arts, were
some of the things she would engage in conversation about and support them in. She loved to
share her native Armenian language and taught the grandchildren words and phrases. They
also shared their acquired Italian language.
Adrien will be remembered for her vibrancy, fancy, colorful style, and sense of humor. She
loved dancing, traveling, beautiful flowers and spending time with her family. She was well
known for her fantastic cheese cake. She was really proud of her long hair and nails and called
her pinky long nail “her pet”. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Adrien is survived by her Sons, Bryan and Barry Bedore, Daughters in law Cassie and Jamie,
Stepdaughter Carol, Stepsons Art and Allen, grandchildren Wes, Lauren, Justin, Jake and
Juliet, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57
years, Arthur Bedore, Brother Murad Tarpinian, Sisters Margaret Viens and Alice Pegararo, her
parents and step son Paul.
