Edward Donnellan

February 17, 1921 – December 20, 2010

Edward Paul Donnellan passed away in his home surrounded by his children and grandchildrenon December 20, 2010. He was 89 years old. Edward was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York in a loving family. Edward married Inez Maria Amrein on June 5, 1942. They had a long loving marriage and together they raised five children. Edward was a devoted husband and an extraordinary father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Generous, spirited and full of heart, he taught us "nothing was more important than family." Edward, a college graduate of Pratt Institute began a long career as an Engineer with Ford Instruments where he worked for 42 years. His work journey inspired a number of geographical moves between the East Coast and West Coast living in New York, New Jersey, California (Northern and Southern regions) and back to New York. He ultimately retired in 1983 as a Regional Engineer Supervisor from Sperry Rand, a subsidiary of Ford Instrument in New York. His employees to this day refer to him as the best boss they ever had. Upon retirement Edward and Inez, anxious to get back to San Diego, the place they called "heaven" built their retirement home in Ramona, CA. Edward enjoyed his many years of retirement, spending time with his family, baking "Grandpa's Bread" with homemade soup and traveling to places like Ireland, Canada, Alaska and more. He loved sports and football season was his favorite time of the year (a Washington Redskins fan). He also enjoyed baseball and his Brooklyn/LA Dodgers. He even cheered on the San Diego teams! Edward was grateful for all his blessings in life and would often say that God was very good to him! He is survived by his four children; Inez Marianne Nielsen of Jamul, Stephen Donnellan, Patricia VanNatta and Maureen Carasiti of Ramona, CA. Also, eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He joins his loving wife Inez and oldest son Edward in heaven. A mass service in Edward's honor will be held on January 14, 2011 at 11am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Ramona, CA. In lieu of flowers donations can be mailed to Developmental Services Continuum, 7944 Golden Ave. Lemon Grove, CA 91945 or you make a donation online at www.dsc-inc.org Bonham Bros. & Stewart Mortuary and Cremation Service assisted the family.
