Gary Lee Whigham
May 29, 1957 – July 31, 2010

Gary Whigham, age 53, passed away at his home on July 31, 2010 in Kapolei, Hawaii. Born in Escondido, CA on May 29, 1957, Gary grew up in Ramona and graduated from Ramona High School in 1975. While growing up in Ramona, Gary enjoyed hiking, gardening, 4-H and spending time with his friends. Always creative and artistic, Gary liked to collect pieces of art and Persian rugs to decorate his home. He enjoyed cooking and entertaining friends, especially when they came to visit him in Hawaii. Gary worked at Woodwards while attending college. After college, Gary took up a career in banking starting at the Bank of America in Ramona. He stayed with the Bank of America for many years working up to the position of Vice President / Compliance Manager.

In 2000, Gary accepted a position at the Bank of Hawaii and moved to the island of Oahu to live. He purchased a home in Kapolei and settled into the island lifestyle. At the Bank of Hawaii, he had a chance to travel the Pacific, visiting Guam, Palau and Samoa to conduct bank business. Gary was promoted to Vice President of Loan Compliance at the Bank of Hawaii and enjoyed the respect and admiration of his co-workers and superiors, up to and including the CEO of the Bank of Hawaii, Mr. Peter Ho. The Bank of Hawaii's co-workers were deeply affected by his passing as was his family and close circle of friends.

Gary had a lifelong love of animals and particularly his pet terrier, Pua. Pua was a very special part of Gary's life and was a constant companion to him. Gary took excellent care of Pua as her health deteriorated, her eyesight failed and her cancer grew.

Gary is survived by his brother David (Kristy) Whigham and two (2) nephews Matthew (Emily) Whigham and Greg Whigham, all of Ramona, CA. He will be dearly missed by his family and his large group of close friends. Gary is remembered fondly as a great friend by everyone who knew him.

Services are planned for Saturday, Sept 11, 2010 at 1:00 PM at the First Congregation Church of Ramona (8th & D Street, Ramona, CA) with graveside services to follow 2:30 PM at the Nuevo Memory Gardens (532 Ash Street, Ramona, CA).

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Waipahu-Leeward Veterinary Clinic, 94-801 Farrrington Hwy, Suite 3, Waipahu, HI 96797 for pets in need. To sign Gary's guestbook and send a condolence, please visit www.bonhammortuary.com
