Herman John Boerman was born on December 19,1923 in Chicago, Illinois to John Boerman and Irene (Riley) Boerman. He was the second oldest of four children. His childhood years were filled with adventure and mischief. After high school graduation, in November of 1942, Herman joined the U.S. Navy and received his basic training in San Diego, CA. The Navy chose him to be a U.S. Navy Corpsman also known as a Pharmacist’s Mate(Medic). He spent his time in the South Pacific. He was on ships, sub tenders and on the islands. Upon his return from WWII he married Lois Marie Weikum, known as Wicki, whom he had known since childhood. They were married in Chicago on December 27,1946. He worked several jobs in Chicago. He worked for Diamond T Motor Car Company, and as a door to door television salesman. In 1950 Herman enrolled at Arizona Bible Institute in Phoenix, AZ where he studied to become a missionary pastor. In1954 he and Wicki joined the mission organization known as Village Missions. They served in small rural churches where Herman would also help in the communities. Besides being the pastor, he worked on a logging crew, for a water company, he drove a school bus, helped farmers with their hay and other crops and fixed many cars for people. He and Wicki served for 37 years in seven different churches. Three Forks, CA, Redland, OR, Garden Farms, CA, Lookingglass, OR, Ahwahnee, CA, Pine Valley, CA and Double Adobe, AZ. After retirement they still shared the gospel with people they met. Herman was someone who could go to the grocery store and talk to a person for thirty minutes and make a best friend. Christ was the center of their family and ministry. They wanted people to know that Christ died for their sins according to the scriptures. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
Herman is survived by five of his seven children, Dee Valenzuela(Douglas), Timothy Boerman(Marla), Kenneth Boerman(Debra), Philip Boerman(Michele) and Stephen Boerman(Sally). He is also survived by 18 grandchildren as well as many great and great great grandchildren. Herman was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, his two children, Hope and Faith, and his wife of 72 years Wicki Boerman.
