Hollis Elizabeth Galik

Hollis Elizabeth Galik, 89, passed away peacefully at Cypress Court Senior Living Community in Escondido, CA on 10-10-10. Her husband of sixty years Milton preceded her in death.

Hollis was born in Ava, Douglas County, Missouri, to Lottie and Grover Cleveland Riley and then lived in Brawley, CA with her five brothers. She attended the Business School of UCLA. As a young woman during WWII, she worked as an Executive Secretary. As an active member of the U.S.O., Holly met her husband Milton at a U.S.O. Valentine's dance, and they were married in August 1943. After Milton's discharge from the Service, he resumed his career in Cleveland, Ohio. Milt and Holly bought a house in Fairview Park and raised their three children with the support of Milton's large extended family. Holly was very active at Fairview Baptist Church, P.T.A., and Job's Daughters. She loved her role as a mother and homemaker. Holly orchestrated many parties for her family and her friends. Indeed, one of her greatest joys was bringing laughter and love to her family and friends.

With children raised and a major job change for Milton, Holly and Milt moved to Rancho Bernardo, CA in 1968 and then to Long Beach in 1976 where Holly became a successful real estate agent for Century 21 and soon became a million dollar seller. When Holly and Milt semi-retired to San Diego Country Estates in Ramona, CA in 1985, Holly remained active with family, real estate, travel and golf.

Holly always maintained a positive attitude with a knack for making people feel comfortable in her presence. A smile and a friendly, concerned comment for everyone she encountered were part of her warm personality. Holly was a compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Then . . . still . . . always . . . we love you, Mom.

Holly is survived by her three children: Millicent (Art) Anderson of Seal Beach, Carol (Don) Karg of San Diego, and Milton (Nicki) Galik, Jr., of Ramona, 5 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.

Private funeral service for immediate family will be Monday, November 8, 11:30 at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, CA.
