Hunter Christman Obituary

Hunter E’Huumaay Christman, 27, of Barona Indian Reservation, Lakeside, California passed away at 7:05 P.M. on March 31, 2026, at Scripps Mercy Hospital, Chula Vista, California. Hunter was born on July 22, 1998, at Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, California at 3:41 P.M., the beloved son of Antoinette Tuma (Padilla) and David John Christman. He graduated from Liahona Academy in 2017.

Hunter will be remembered for his kind heart, gentle spirit, and remarkable generosity. Hunter truly had a proverbial heart of gold and a warmth that touched everyone who knew him. An avid outdoorsman and skilled gunsmith, he found great joy in fishing, shooting sports, and spending time in the wild—especially at Capitan Reservoir with family and friends. He was a natural athlete who greatly enjoyed baseball, football, golf, and bowling, and was equally talented in the gaming world, often outplaying his friends and family with impressive talent and friendly competition.

Above all, he was happiest when giving to others—whether through his time, resources, or generosity—always seeking to share happiness and bring joy into the lives of those around him. As a devout Christian, his faith was central to his life, and he loved sharing the message of Christ’s love and hope with family and friends. One of his favorite Bible verses was “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

He is survived by his parents, David John Christman and Antoinette Tuma of Barona Reservation; his siblings Devin Hewak Christman (Barona Reservation), Skylar Hattepaa Christman (Norfolk, Virginia), Nahum Hekwany Christman (Boulder, Colorado), and Nicholas Steven Tuma (San Diego, California), his step-father Kenneth Steven Tuma II, and many loving grandparents, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly. Hunter was preceded in death by his uncle Nissiah Joseph “Juice” Padilla.

Hunter is now safely home with his Savior, where “neither death nor life... shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39). He will be deeply missed by all who knew his gentle spirit, warm smile and kind heart.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 10:00 A.M. at Barona Mission, Barona Indian Reservation with burial to follow at Barona Cemetery.

Arrangements are entrusted to Bonham Bros. & Stewart Mortuary, Ramona, California.
