James Edward McCawley, 83, of El Cajon, CA, passed away on July 24, 2010. He was born to John Henry and Ella (Swayze) McCawley on March 21, 1927 in Seneca, Thomas Co., NE, the eldest of four sons. He attended school in Seneca and Valentine, NE.
He entered the Army from Omaha and served as a cook for two years.
Jim met his wife, Evelyn, on a blind date and were later married on July 2, 1960 in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Los Angeles, California. No children were born to this union.
Jim and Evelyn were hosts to several foreign exchange students, from Thailand, Israel, Norway, Yugoslavia.
Jim was member of of the Elks Club and the Optimists Club and very active with the Boy Scouts of America, where he was an honorary active scout master.
Jim and Evelyn were members of the College Lutheran Church in San Diego, where he was very active in the working with the homeless and participated in mission trips.
Jim’s hobbies and interests included cooking for family and friends, traveling throughout the US as well as overseas, camping in the desert near 29 Palms, CA, and other locations and loved to dance during his later years.
Jim retired from San Diego Gas & Electric after almost 40 years of dedicated service.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ella (Swayze) McCawley, his first wife, Evelyn O. (Evenson) McCawley, and Nephew, Tommy Baggett.
Jim is survived by his wife, Letica, of four years, three brothers: Donald McCawley, of Lincoln, NE; Dale McCawley, of Spokane, WA; Glenn McCawley, of Las Vegas, NV; Nieces and Nephews: Terry (and MaryJo) McCawley, of Aurora, CO; Theresa (and Neil) Ewing, of Colome, SD; Tony (and Maria) McCawley, of Omaha, NE; Timothy (and Michele) McCawley, of Kansas City, KS; Katherine (and Steven) Wynn, of Trenton, MI; Kenneth Nitzche, of El Cajon, CA; Lynn Wesley, of Las Vegas, NV; Bradlie Baggett, of Las Vegas, NV; Blaine Reid, of Alpine, CA; Billie McCaffery of GA.
Funeral Services will be held at College Lutheran Church, 6650 Montezuma Road, San Diego, CA
At Jim’s request, his organs have been donated.
