Jean Timothy Thompson, 88, of Shelter Valley passed away on September 26. 2011. Jean and his wife Merry have lived in Shelter Valley for many years.

Jean was born in Nashville, Tennessee on September 28, 1922. He served in the Army during WWII as a medic in the European theater. Upon returning to the US after the war, he returned to school and received his Masters of Science from the University of Chicago.

He moved to the Los Angeles area and went on to have a long career as an educator. He taught classes in all grade levels from kindergarten to junior college, teaching Science, Health, Math, Physiology and Biology. He was also active with local museums and science centers teaching summer classes, as well writing and narrating science programs for several different television stations in the LA area. Throughout his life, Jean loved to read and listen to classical music.

On Thanksgiving Day of 1974, Jean met Merry, his wife of 36 years. For a time they lived in, and managed, the Julian Hotel on Main Street before moving to their home in Shelter Valley. Jean and Merry were members of the Julian Grange.

Jean leaves behind his beloved Merry, as well as his children, William Thompson of Victorville and Martha Pavlick of Palm Desert. Services were private.
