John A. Bernard, 82, of Ramona passed away after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease, heart disease and Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He went to his rest surrounded by his loving family. John was born to Joseph A Bernard and Mary Keane Bernard on July 25, 1929 and was raised on Martha's Vineyard.
John joined the Air Force and proudly served his country for 12 years during the time of the Korean War. He was a Staff Sergeant. He was a member of the VFW for thirty years. John loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. He also had a great love of animals. When he was younger, he loved to fish.
John is survived by his loving wife Barbara, his son John P Bernard of Boston, Ma, his daughter Rose Pulera of Ramona and his beloved only grandchild, Janel Pulera, also of Ramona. He is also survived by his sister Beatrice House of Buffalo, NY, two brothers, Edmund Bernard and Francis Bernard , both of Oak Bluffs. He was preceded in death by his sister Louise Leonardo. John also leaves behind nieces Carol Canning, Stephanie Vourdreau and Mary Johnson of Edgartown, MA and nephews Francis R Bernard Jr., William Bernard and Frank Leonardo.
Mass will be held on Thursday, September 15th at 12 noon at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Ramona. Following the mass, there will be burial with honors at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery at 2:30.
