Lila Joan Munson

Lila Joan (Joannie) Munson, age 88, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, February 13, 2022.
She was born on June 19, 1933 to Edgar and Norma Marler in Wichita Kansas, their only child. Her
family moved to Southern California when she was 11 years old. She married at the ripe old age of 17
and had three boys. In 1970 they moved to the small mountain community of Julian, a place she loved
to call home, and remained there (with the exception of a few years) for the rest of her life.

Joannie was active in the community of Julian for many years. She was the choir director at the former
Baptist church, and led the handbell and hand chime choir there as well. She worked for 20 years as the
Julian Elementary/Junior High School’s district secretary. She hosted lovely parties for holidays,
weddings and church gatherings in her warm and inviting “yellow house” (as it was affectionately called
by family and friends) in Pine Hills. She loved to travel within the United States, as well as
internationally. Alaska “stole her heart” though. She enjoyed the great outdoors during family camping
trips. Her roles as mother, grandma and great grandma were her absolute favorite. Due to an
unfortunate rare disorder known as MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivity), her activity in the community
came to a halt. But, her love for the Lord, her friends and family gave her the strength she needed to
endure the many “bends in the road” of her life. Her family has always been the joy of her life and they
all miss her very much.

She is survived by two of her three sons, Stephen (Carolyn) Munson and Scott (Sara) Munson, 6
grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her oldest son, David Munson.

Family and friends will be welcomed to remember and celebrate her life on Saturday, February 26, 2022
at 11:00 am, Calvary Chapel, 3731 Wynola Road, Julian, CA 92036.
