Martin Henry Obituary

Martin Luther Henry, a 50-year resident of Ramona, passed into eternity peacefully with his loving wife
of 63 years at his bedside, on Tuesday, February 8. He was born June 11, 1931 in Illinois to Luther
Cameron Henry and Nelda Bachanz Henry. In 1950 he joined the Navy and after serving during the
Korean War, settled in the San Diego area and became a skilled floor layer. He “crawled on his hands
and knees for living” for over 64 years. He moved his family to Ramona in 1972 and shortly thereafter
obtained his business license and established “Martin L Henry Floor Coverings.”

Those who knew Martin will remember his faithfulness towards his family and how he worked hard to
provide a beautiful home, patio, pool, and yard for extended family gatherings on Thanksgiving,
Christmas, Easter, July 4 th , birthday parties, and celebrations throughout the years. He enjoyed the
outdoors, took his family on many camping adventures, and went on several cruises with his wife, Cuca,
to the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Alaska, the Mexican Riviera, and Hawaii.

Martin’s honesty mixed with humor are unforgettable. He was a man who was joyful in what others
might call difficult circumstances. He never complained and gave each day his best effort. He coined
several short phrases to communicate whole paragraphs such as: How we doing? Always Good! Easy
Money! Al never dies! If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! If you say it, do it! and Don’t get old!

In keeping with his “talk is cheap” motto, Martin was an active member of the VFW Post 3783 in
Ramona for over 32 years and cared for veterans by fixing up their homes and cars, bringing them
groceries, visiting them at home or in the hospital, and placing flags on veteran grave sites on Memorial
and Veterans’ Days.

Martin is survived by his wife, Cuca, and their three daughters: Julie (Norbert) Avila, Darla (Mark) Grisez,
and Angela Henry; eight grandchildren: Ben (Laura) Grisez, Mat (Jena) Grisez, Neal Avila, Melani (Rob)
Pheasant, Sara (Chet) Billingsley, Helen (Nathan) White, Amanda Abarca and Talia Abarca; twelve great-
grandchildren: Jack, Zed, Demi, Abel, Grisez, Maxime, Trae, Stephen, David, Stella, Violet, and Xavier.
Martin is also survived by his brother, David, and sister Miriam (David) Llewelyn.

Martin set the bar high for those of us behind him. He will be missed, but most of all will always be
remembered with love and a smile.

Farewell Husband, Dad, Brother, Uncle, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, and Friend.
