Robert (Bob) O'Malley was born in Troy, New York on 17 February 1926 to Edward J. and Anna N. O'Malley. He is survived by his four children, Roger (Carol), Pamela, Mark (Jennifer), and Matthew (Alicia), as well as his eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. His wife Teddi and daughter Patricia precede him in death. He was very proud of the accomplishments of his children and family.
Bob graduated from Lansingburgh High School in Troy, New York in 1943 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was promoted to Chief Storekeeper in 1951 and commissioned as an Ensign in the Supply Corps in 1956. He served for twenty-four years, seeing action with the Amphibious Forces, South Pacific World War II, China Service and Korea 1950-1951 aboard a destroyer and was an advisor to the Vietnamese Junk Forces and River Assault Groups in 1963-1964. A highlight of his career was his service on the USS Northampton CLC-1, Flagship 2nd Fleet & NATO Strike Force, Atlantic Fleet 1959-1961. He retired in 1967. In addition to theater medals, he was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal with combat "V" for Vietnam, Presidential Unit Citations for Korea and Vietnam, Navy Unit Commendations for Korea and Vietnam, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry.
Bob and Teddi were married on 5 May 1951 in Waukegan, Illinois and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2001. He often stated that without "His Lady, Teddi", a naval career would not have been possible. After retirement he became a banker with Security Pacific National Bank and retired from Santa Clarita National Bank as Vice President in 1985. He then formed R. H. O'Malley and Associates, a mortgage brokerage firm.
Bob was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, past President of the Navy League of San Fernando Valley, and member of the Kiwanis in Granada Hills. He was active with the Boy Scouts of America as a Scoutmaster and District Commissioner where he received the National Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver. He was also awarded the Order of St. George by the Catholic Church for his service to youth. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Fleet Reserve Association, the Naval Institute, the Military Officers of America, and the UCLA Alumni Association. Bob was active in various Chambers of Commerce and was a Director of the Pine Mountain Club in Pine Mountain, California for over\ seven years. He was a co-founder & past president of the Pine Mountain Forum, a political action group known as "The Loyal Opposition" to the PMCPOA Board of Directors. He was also involved with the Homeowners Association at Stone Ridge Estates in Warner Springs.
He and Teddi enjoyed many years as RV enthusiasts and Bob was Wagon Master of the Rolling Pine Nuts, an RV group at Pine Mountain Club, CA for 12 years. He had been Treasurer of the USS Northampton Reunion Association since 1996. Bob had a wonderful life and was so thankful for his family. His ashes will be interred at Miramar National Cemetery in a private family service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity, Santa Ysabel Mission, Maryknoll Mission Society, or the U.S. Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C.
