Wanda Barbara Ciuzak passed away peacefully the morning of June 7, 2011 in Escondido, CA after a brief illness. She was born November 23, 1918, one of 14 children, to Valentinus and Mary Teckla Mucha Gwazdacz, in Mosinee, WI where her family operated a dairy farm. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Michael, and survived by 2 sisters, Mary and Fran, 3 brothers Leo, John and Robert, sisters-in-law Jo and Jean, brother-in-law Don and sisters-in-law Poonie and Georgia, her four children Mary (Paul), Jim (Dee), Michael, and Sally Ciuzak-Roed, 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
She lived an incredibly full life. During WWII, while her husband was in Europe fighting, she was one of the original “Rosie the Riveters” helping build bombers in San Diego. They were married for 2 months before Michael left for Europe for 4 years. Their children were born in San Diego and the family later lived in Kensington and Santee, before moving to Ramona in 1962. She was a great mother and mother-in-law and very special to all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They all loved visiting the Ciuzaks in Ramona.
Wanda was also chosen “volunteer of the month” by the Ramona Sentinel for her work at the Ramona Food and Clothes Closet where hs was later hired as a full-time employee. She also was a member/officer of the Altar and Rosary Society of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church as well as a volunteer/officer at the Senior Center. She also took art lessons in Ramona and won several awards for her paintings.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2011 from 5-8pm with recitation of the rosary at 7pm, Bonham Bros & Stewart Mortuary Chapel.
A celebration of life will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on Friday, June 10, 2011 at 10am. Her nephew, Vic, said Wanda was “a sparkler, a firecracker……a most gentle person”.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Ramona Pregnancy Care Clinic.
Bonham Bros. & Stewart Mortuary and Cremation Service is assisting the family.
